Carlie Carey for the 38th

Meet Carlie

Carlie is a proud Sussex County native who grew up in the 38th district. She was raised by amazing entrepreneur parents who led by example — instilling within her a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude. That enthusiasm and dedication have served Carlie well throughout her life and are the foundation of many of her achievements.

After graduating from Indian River High School, she attended CU-Boulder and obtained a Bachelor of Studio Arts, and if there was a degree in being an adventurer, she’d have gotten that one, too. Carlie is an outdoor enthusiast who has run a total of five marathons around the world, hiked the Appalachian Trail, rafted the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, and ridden her bicycle across the entire USA. Because delusional optimism is basically part of her DNA, Carlie and her husband - who also grew up in the 38th - decided to open a farm-to-table restaurant in Fenwick Island, a place that holds deep roots for both of them. The menu and the vibes were heavily influenced by the community they grew up in, a community they loved and wanted to honor. The restaurant's premise was simple: extraordinary food with extraordinary hospitality. Unsurprisingly to all who knew them, the accolades started in 2014 and continued until they sold in 2022 to spend more time with their two children.

Now, Carlie is a mom of three and owns a ceramics studio. She works alongside her husband on their 16-acre farm full of animals and gardens and still has that delusional optimism. She built this chapter of life in the 38th the same way she's built every chapter prior - and the same way she'll build the next as your State Representative: with enthusiasm and dedication.
